I am only human.

A deeply flawed one who, at every turn, makes the worst possible decision. Yet somehow, I am still alive, unsupervised, and making it everyone else’s problem.

Yes, my older brother is always there to lecture me after every hedonistic display of poor judgment. But he drives a Dodge Stratus. I cannot take life advice from a grown man who still has a CD changer in his car.

And yes, my so-close-yet-so-far love interest does call me a “barely functional fetus” when I abuse my powers. Personally, I choose to believe that’s how she talks dirty to me.

Each episode of The Rushes Mixtape is a new reminder that I should not be trusted with supernatural abilities.

None of this should end well.
Spoiler: it never does.

Because with every poor decision, I’m getting dragged deeper into a world I didn’t know existed. A world not actually from this…world.

There’s no redemption arc here.
No clean exit.

Just me. Shadi. Making it worse.

Helen Rowland structures the book as a series of short, aphoristic observations and satirical commentary about the stages and types of men. She classifies bachelors, husbands, lovers, and flirts with precision and flair, using concise language and clever turns of phrase. Her style mirrors that of a social columnist with a sharp pen—never bitter, always observant, and often devastatingly funny. Readers encounter lines that read like maxims, crafted to entertain while revealing uncomfortable truths.

Despite its humor, the book offers serious insights into gender roles and expectations of the time. Rowland strips away the social masks that men wore in courtship and marriage, questioning sincerity, romantic ideals, and the power dynamics between the sexes. While rooted in the early 1900s, much of her commentary still feels relevant, especially in how she exposes manipulation and vanity beneath polished manners. A Guide to Men remains both a product of its era and a timeless exploration of relational folly.

The story follows Charles Pooter, a socially awkward clerk with an inflated sense of importance, as he chronicles the trivialities of his daily life. From household mishaps to awkward encounters with friends and neighbors, Pooter’s diary hilariously showcases the gap between his self-perception and the reality of his unremarkable existence. The humor comes alive in Pooter’s obliviousness to his own absurdity, making him an endearingly relatable character.

Beyond the laughs, the book offers a sharp critique of Victorian social norms, aspirations, and pretensions. Through Pooter’s interactions with his eccentric circle of friends and his rebellious son Lupin, the Grossmith brothers present a slice of life that resonates across generations. The wit and charm of The Diary of a Nobody ensure its enduring appeal as a comedic classic.

In My Man Jeeves, Wodehouse crafts a collection of stories that introduce readers to Jeeves and Wooster, two unforgettable characters who quickly became iconic figures in English humor. Jeeves, the valet, continually saves Bertie Wooster from a variety of social entanglements, misunderstandings, and the chaos brought on by Bertie’s own misguided schemes. Wodehouse captures the quirks of British society and the follies of human nature with lighthearted, witty prose, blending absurdity with relatable situations.

Alongside Jeeves and Wooster, this collection also features Reggie Pepper, a character who similarly finds himself in ridiculous scenarios, relying on clever improvisation to navigate the pitfalls of upper-crust society. Through these characters, Wodehouse explores themes of class, friendship, and loyalty, all while maintaining a breezy, humorous tone that has made his work a staple in comic literature. My Man Jeeves serves as a vibrant introduction to the comedic world Wodehouse perfected in later works, leaving readers both amused and eager for more escapades with the charming duo.

The play follows the mischievous character of Puck, who embodies the devilish spirit and serves as a catalyst for chaos among the characters. Puck’s antics lead a group of foolish and ambitious men, including the vain and self-serving politicians, into a whirlwind of deception and mischief. Jonson uses sharp humor and biting satire to critique the moral failings of society, presenting characters who are often blind to their own flaws. Through their misguided pursuits and foolish decisions, he paints a vivid portrait of humanity’s endless struggle between ambition and ethics.

As the story unfolds, the lines between reality and illusion blur, revealing the absurdity of the characters’ aspirations and the often ludicrous consequences of their actions. Jonson’s clever dialogue and rich characterizations captivate audiences, ensuring that The Devil is an Ass remains a timeless commentary on human behavior and societal expectations. With its blend of comedy, satire, and moral inquiry, the play encourages readers to consider the true nature of evil and the complexities of the human condition.

Barrie doesn’t just write about smoking; he immerses the reader in the culture and camaraderie that surround it. The author introduces us to his friends, fellow smokers who gather to indulge in their shared habit. Barrie’s detailed descriptions and keen observations capture the essence of these moments, allowing readers to feel as if they are part of the group, enjoying a leisurely evening with friends.

The book’s charm lies in its blend of humor and nostalgia. Barrie’s lighthearted anecdotes and playful commentary on the intricacies of smoking rituals provide a delightful escape from the mundane. At the same time, “My Lady Nicotine” serves as a poignant reminder of the past, evoking a time when life moved at a slower pace and simple pleasures held great significance. Barrie’s affectionate portrayal of his smoking habits and the friendships they fostered make this work a timeless celebration of a bygone era.

From the Mayflower landing on Plymouth Rock to Apollo 11’ s touchdown on the moon, America has been nothing but the effing coolest country ever. This book packs in fun facts, curious trivia, and wacky revelations about the land of the free, including:

• In the midst of the Civil War, 10,000 Confederate soldiers had a snowball fight—Tar Heels vs. Georgians.
• Washington’s four dogs were named Drunkard, Taster, Tipler and Tipsy.
• Unlike melodramatic Hollywood versions, the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral lasted just 30 seconds.
• The incredibly unlucky son of Abe Lincoln witnessed the assassination deaths of three presidents.
• The U.S. refused to pay a $400 littering fine for dropping the space station on Australia.
• Ford pardoned not only Nixon but also Robert E. Lee 105 years after Lee’s death.
• There is no evidence that Betsy Ross designed the American flag.
